Chinese white shrimp

[Local name] Large shrimp, prawns, meat shrimp, yellow shrimp (male), green shrimp (female), prawns.

[Morphological features] The body is long and flattened on the side. The female body length is 18-24 centimeters, and the male body length is 13-17 centimeters. The shell is thin, smooth and transparent, with the female body being blue-green and the male body being brownish yellow. Usually, female shrimps are larger than male shrimps. The whole body of a shrimp consists of 20 segments, including 5 segments in the head, 8 segments in the chest, and 7 segments in the abdomen. Except for the caudal segment, each segment has a pair of appendages. There are 5 pairs of walking feet, with the first 3 pairs in a pincer shape and the last 2 pairs in a claw shape. The central protrusion of the anterior edge of the cephalothorax forms the frontal angle. The upper and lower edges of the forehead have serrations.

The production area and season are mainly distributed in the Yellow and Bohai Seas of China and the western coast of North Korea. The coastal areas of Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong provinces, and Tianjin city in China are important production areas for shrimp. The fishing season used to have two seasons, spring and autumn, with the spring flood season from April to June; September to October is the autumn flood season. The mid to late October is the peak flood season.

At the end of the 1970s, Chinese aquaculture technology workers broke through the artificial breeding technology of shrimp, solving the problem of shrimp seedlings in artificial aquaculture. Currently, Chinese shrimp aquaculture production has been carried out along the coast of China, from Dandong City in Liaoning Province to the coast of Hainan in the south, with an annual production of about 200000 tons, greatly exceeding the catch in natural waters.

[Economic value] Fresh food can include braised prawns, fried prawns, fried prawns, Pipa shaped deep-fried prawns(Pipa is a Chinese musical instrument), fried shrimps, etc. Processed into high-quality seafood such as dried shrimp and dried shrimp. Chinese shrimp is the main export product of aquatic products in China.

Spotted shrimp

[Local name] Grass shrimp, flower shrimp, cow shaped shrimp. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization commonly refers to the Great Tiger Shrimp.

[Morphological features] The body is covered with black brown and earthy yellow alternating horizontal patterns. The upper edge of the forehead has 7-8 teeth, and the lower edge has 2-3 teeth. The lateral groove of the frontal horn is quite deep, extending to the back of the thorn above the eye, but the lateral ridge of the frontal horn is lower and blunt, with a prominent central groove in the posterior ridge of the frontal horn. There is a clear hepatic spine and no frontal gastric spine.

The distribution area is very wide, from southern Japan, South Korea, the coast of China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, Thailand, India to the eastern coast of Africa. There are two spawning periods along the coast of China each year, from February to April and from August to November.

[Economic value] is currently the most commonly farmed variety in the world. We can cultivate two crops along the southern coast of our country. This shrimp grows fast, has strong adaptability, has a diverse diet, and can tolerate long periods of dry dew, making it easy to work, transport, and sell. This shrimp is the largest individual among the shrimp species, with the largest individual found measuring up to 33 centimeters in length and weighing 500-600 grams. Mature shrimp generally have a body length of 22.5-32 centimeters and a weight of 137-211 grams, making them a popular shrimp among consumers. The nutritional value is similar to other major shrimp species.

Long haired shrimp

[Local name] Macrobrachium prawns, white shrimp, red tailed shrimp, red shrimp, big prawns, commonly known as red tailed shrimp by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

[Morphological features] The body is light brownish yellow, with 7-8 teeth on the upper edge of the forehead and 4-6 teeth on the lower edge. The frontal base is higher than that of Chinese shrimp and lower than that of Moji shrimp when viewed from the side. The posterior ridge of the forehead extends to the vicinity of the posterior edge of the head and chest armor, without a central groove. The first tentacle whip is slightly longer than the head and chest armor, and the third jaw foot of male shrimp has long brush like hair at the end, which is 1.2-2.7 times the length of the second segment. There are intermittent indentations on the forehead ridge. The wart protrusion at the top of the anterior segment of the female copulator is smaller than that of the Moji shrimp.

The production area and season are mainly distributed along the coast of Pakistan to Indonesia in the Indian Ocean and Western Pacific. The most common occurrence is along the eastern coast of Fujian, Taiwan, and Guangdong in China. The sea fishing season is from October to January of the following year. At present, it is the main breeding target in coastal areas such as Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hainan.

[Economic Value] The spawning population of long haired shrimp ranges in length from 13 to 19 centimeters and weighs 28 to 80 grams, making it one of the largest shrimp species in the shrimp kingdom. Breeding along the southern coast of China takes 120-150 days, and the body length can reach over 12 centimeters. This shrimp is more tolerant to low temperatures than other southern shrimp species and grows faster at lower temperatures, making it a better late season breeding variety in the south with better economic benefits. Long haired shrimp shells are relatively thin and susceptible to mechanical damage. The nutritional value is similar to other shrimp species.
